The Media Council of Malawi (MCM) has raised concerns over the increasing corruption within the country’s media landscape, warning that the situation is spiralling out of control as Malawi approaches next year’s general elections.

Speaking at a Annual Broadcasters’ Conference organized by the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) in Lilongwe, MCM Executive Director Moses Kaufa highlighted the worsening state of corruption in the media sector.

He said tipped broadcasters to strictly adhere to Media Code of Conduct to maintain professionalism and integrity during this critical period.

In his presentation, Kaufa expressed concern that some other election stakeholders are not adequately addressing the media’s role as an epicentre of corruption.

He has since urged the media to prevent the sector from undermining the credibility of the upcoming elections.
